One of the most common questions men have about TRT is what it actually costs. Unlike subscription platforms that bundle everything into opaque monthly fees, we believe in transparency.

GP consultation fees

At Men's Health GP, initial consultations are $99 for a 15-minute video appointment. Follow-ups are $39. No hidden charges. You'll typically need follow-ups every 8–12 weeks initially, then every 6 months once stable.

Some telehealth providers offer bulk-billed consultations — but for TRT, the depth of assessment required (reviewing blood work, adjusting doses, monitoring side effects) typically warrants a dedicated men's health consultation rather than a rushed bulk-billed appointment.

Blood work costs

Blood tests are essential for TRT — both for diagnosis and ongoing monitoring. When ordered by your GP, most standard pathology (testosterone, LFTs, FBC, lipids, PSA) is bulk-billed through Medicare, meaning no out-of-pocket cost. Some specialised hormone panels (free testosterone, SHBG, oestradiol) may have a small gap fee depending on your pathology provider — typically $20–$50.

Testosterone medication costs

Medications are filled at your pharmacy at standard prices. We don't ship medication or add markups. The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) subsidises some formulations for men who meet specific hypogonadism criteria:

  • Testosterone undecanoate injection (Reandron) — ~$35–$45 on PBS, administered every 10–14 weeks. This is the most cost-effective long-term option.
  • Testosterone gel 1% (Testogel/AndroForte) — ~$30–$80/month depending on brand and PBS eligibility.
  • Testosterone cream (compounded) — ~$50–$100/month from compounding pharmacies. Not PBS-subsidised.

PBS subsidies require the prescription to come from, or be endorsed by, an endocrinologist or urologist. Your GP can manage the referral pathway. As noted by Healthy Male, involving a specialist ensures optimal treatment and makes medication more affordable.

Total annual cost estimate

For a man on PBS-subsidised Reandron injections (the most common formulation):

  • Initial consultation: $99
  • Follow-up consultations (4–6/year): $156–$234
  • Medication (4–5 injections/year): $140–$225
  • Blood work: Mostly bulk-billed ($0–$100 gap)
  • Total first year: approximately $400–$660

How this compares to subscription services

Many online men's health platforms charge $199–$599 per month for bundled packages with 3–6 month lock-ins. That's $2,388–$7,188 per year. With our pay-per-consult model and pharmacy pricing, most men pay under $700/year for the same treatment — without lock-in contracts or medication markups.
